Established by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, the Peace Corps has seen over 240,000 Americans serve in 144 countries. It is a global service network that promotes world peace and friendship.

Volunteers contribute to projects in education, health, environment, agriculture, community economic development, and youth development.

Reflecting on his visit, Deputy Director White stated, "As I embark on my inaugural visit to Cameroon, I am deeply inspired by the transformative power of the Peace Corps' mission and our invitation for bold change makers to serve. This trip represents more than a journey across continents; it symbolizes our unwavering commitment to global service, youth empowerment, and education. In Cameroon, the potential of the youth is palpable, reinforcing our belief that empowering young people is pivotal for sustainable development and catalyzing a strong global economy."

The Peace Corps has maintained a longstanding presence in Cameroon since 1962, with over 3,900 volunteers serving in various capacities over the last 62 years. Currently, 33 volunteers are serving in five regions of the country. Prior to his role as Deputy Director, White served as Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources at the U.S. Department of State.
