After two years of suspension, staff of the ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED) have presented New Year wishes to their minister, Hélé Pierre. The event took place on Tuesday February 8th at the Yaounde Conference Centre, for the first time in two years due to the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic.
The presentation of the 2023 new year wishes to the minister, Hélé Pierre and minister delegate started with a speech from the Secretary General, in the ministry, Paul Tchawa who kicked off the social gathering with an assessment and pass mark for the ministry's activities in the year of 2022. Counting MINEPDED’s achievements, he pointed out the fact that several hectares of land had been reforested, by the ministry. He said the ministry had engaged a meaningful number of conferences, seminars, national and international workshops on climate change, biodiversity management and campaigns to raise awareness on climate change matters.
Speaking to the press, minister Hélé Pierre stated that to meet their set objectives for the new year, five programs that concern the ministry such as climate change, drought planning, biodiversity, sustainable development and waste pollution management have been outlined.
“These five programs make it possible to meet the different objectives but to improve performance, we need to improve the way we do it too. We are going to review our working methods for efficient results. We must satisfy everyone through the punctuality and hospitality of staff and users. We would like 2023 to be a special year where we will take a step forward in the success of our missions. We are therefore equipped to go beyond what we usually do” he said.
The minister further mentioned that the government has put a lot of emphasis on these programs and that the ministry will articulate the activities of the year 2023 by remaining focused on them.
