The National Institute of Youth and Sports best known by its French acronym, INJS, is geared for a smooth fiscal year following its 11th ordinary session held recently. Meeting in Yaounde, the board reviewed progress made, map out strategic objectives, and ensured that the institution has the necessary resources to carry out its youth development mission during the 2024 fiscal year.

Held on January 11th, the board meeting brought together representatives from across various ministries for a full day of deliberations at the Institute's headquarters in Yaounde. The board president Adoum Garoua opened the meeting which met a full quorum, by reflecting on the achievements and challenges of the past 12 months. He emphasized on the critical role that INJS plays in empowering young people through accessible sporting programs.

Members then turned their attention to examining draft reports on key topics from the previous board session and the execution of last year's action plan. Providing feedback served to both evaluate progress to date and ensure strategic alignment moving forward.

Among the most substantive items was approval of the proposed FCFA 949,950,000 budget for the 2024 fiscal year. This vital sum is intended to sustain INJS operations at its national headquarters, 10 zonal training centers, and network of 38 satellite community sport clubs strategically placed across diverse the country’s 10 regions.

The Director of the school, Dr. Ebal Minye Edmond gave more insight on part of the projects the budget is intended for, stating that he is positive that the budget will be enough to achieve their goals. ‘‘We want to rehabilitate our infrastructure, this campus, and we want to construct a new campus out of the Yaounde urban area’’ he said in a press interview.

In addition to budget authorization, resolutions were adopted to strengthen staff recruitment and retention, upgrade certain positions to higher pay grades in line with added responsibilities, and formalize the process for academic promotions. As to what concerns personnel graduation and students, the Director assured that their issues will be adequately taken care of in the budget to ensure their smooth training.

INJS Board of Directors

Looking ahead, members endorsed strategic plans outlining organizational priorities, key performance indicators, and targeted initiatives over the coming year. According to INJS’ Director, these documents are designed to maximize impact through evidence-based programming, innovative partnerships, and leveraging new technologies.

Director Dr. Ebal Minye believes that, with strategic guidance and necessary authorizations now in place, NIYS is well positioned to build on recent progress and better serve the nation's youth in the years to come.
