Today, I was elated to join my colleagues of the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists - CAMASEJ, in community service project, in Yaounde ahead of World Press Freedom Day tomorrow.
We spent the morning doing a litter pick, cleaning up the area around Rond Point Express through Carrefour Acacia to the office of the Divisional Officer of Yaounde VI.
It was inspiring to see so many people voluntarily come together to tackle an issue that affects us all. Bit by bit, we filled bag after bag with trash - everything from plastic bottles to papers and cartons. You could really see the difference we made when you stand back and look at the now clean streets versus the piles of rubbish once piled up.
This year's theme “A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis,'' challenges journalists to shed light on environmental crises. I believe as a journalist, I have the power to create change. I hope more people understand their role in building a sustainable future.
