ASMAC Sets Stage to Feast 50 Years of Excellence in Communication

The Advanced School of Mass Communications (ASMAC) is gearing up to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a series of exciting activities. The institution, which has trained thousands of individuals from different parts of the world, has been in existence since 1970 and has undergone several name changes.


The Director of ASMAC, Prof. Alice Nga Minkala, announced the launch of activities to celebrate the institution's milestone during a press conference held in the Hervé Bourges Amphitheatre of ASMAC. The event, which is co-chaired by the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, and the Minister of Communication, is scheduled to take place from June 14 to June 16.

The celebration will kick off with a trade fair for information and communication professions, followed by a forum on public communication, a symposium on COVID-19, a football tournament, a networking evening, a gala event, and a graduation ceremony. These activities have been carefully selected to cater to the diverse interests of the institution's stakeholders.

According to Prof. Alice Nga Minkala, the celebration has several objectives, including establishing an intergenerational link between the various batches of ASMAC, raising funds for the institution's various activities, and creating partnerships beneficial to the academic objectives of the institution.

ASMAC, which is a professional training institution of the University of Yaoundé II, offers training in five fields at the Bachelor's level in Journalism, Publishing and Graphic Arts, Advertising, Public Relations, and Documentary Information. At the Master's level, the institution's students can specialize in Political Journalism, Health and Environment, Territorial Communication, Archiving and Document Engineering, Business Communication and Marketing, and Event Communication.


The institution has come a long way since its creation in 1970. It has had a total of six directors and has undergone three name changes. Initially named Yaoundé International School of Higher Education, it was later changed to the Advanced School of Information Science and Technology before settling for the name Advanced School of Mass Communication (ASMAC).

The celebration of ASMAC's 50th anniversary is expected to attract thousands of individuals from various organizations and companies worldwide. The event provides an opportunity for alumni, stakeholders, and well-wishers to come together and celebrate the institution's impact over the past five decades.
